Again, learn the extremes. Try
another inch, this time move so
slow that you melt holes into the
steel tube. Do another inch moving
so fast that you apply molten bits
of welding rod to the top of the
steel tube which do not melt into
or become one with the steel tube.
These bird droppings have very
little adhesive power, the steel
must all melt together.
Ultimately, the welder works on
the very edge of losing control of
the puddle, where the penetration
of melting reaches nearly through
to the inside surface of the
tubing.
